Washington, 2 July (WashingtonTV)—US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Thursday delivered a video message to US missions worldwide, on the occasion of America’s 4 July Independence Day holiday.
The message, which was also posted on YouTube, is to be played at 4 July celebrations at US missions around the world.
“For Americans, the 4th of July is a day to reconnect with loved ones, to remember our history, and to renew our commitment to democracy, tolerance, and justice. As President [Barack] Obama said in Cairo last month, these are not just American values, these are core principles we share with people everywhere. So it is fitting that we open our doors and share this day with our friends and neighbors around the world,” said Clinton.
Clinton noted that today’s global challenges must be met not by one country, but by all nations.
“We all share responsibility for working together to ensure a more peaceful and prosperous future,” she said, adding: “So I hope that today’s celebration will become tomorrow’s partnership.”
The State Department had invited Iranian diplomats to 4 July celebrations at US embassies and consulates worldwide, but rescinded that invitation following Iran’s violent crackdown on protests following its disputed 12 June presidential election.
