Washington, 9 November (WashingtonTV)—Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator, Saeed Jalili, said on Sunday that he hoped Tehran and world powers would reach agreement on a United Nations-brokered nuclear fuel deal soon.
Speaking at a meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov in Tehran, Jalili also said that Iran wants to continue discussions on a package of proposals it had put forward to six world powers.
The state broadcaster, IRIB News, quoted Jalili as saying that he hoped talks with world powers on the nuclear fuel deal “will be completed as quickly as possible.”
“Tehran also welcomes the continuation of talks on the basis of its package of proposals,” Jalili added.
World powers are still awaiting Iran’s formal response to the nuclear fuel deal, under which it would ship most of its low-enriched uranium abroad for further processing, to be used in a research reactor in Tehran.
Jalili, who is also the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, asserted that Iran’s “technical and economic views” should be taken into consideration in any talks on its nuclear program.
Pointing to Iran’s “positive” approach in the talks, Jalili warned that “some powers are trying to impose the cost of their wrong behavior on other countries.”
For his part, Ryabkov described Iran as an “important and influential country”, and called for the expansion of Tehran-Moscow ties.
