It's official: Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is running for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.

In her speech, Warren said "This is the fight of our lives".

She worked as chair of the Congressional Oversight Panel of the Troubled Asset Relief Program and was key in the conception of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), for which she served as the first Special Advisor.

She has $11 million left over from her commanding 2018 Senate re-election victory that can be used on her presidential run. As a general rule, US presidential elections are won from the center out as opposed to the fringes.

But it remained unclear how badly damaged Warren is by a stubborn controversy over her claim to Native American roots - a claim Trump has seized upon to belittle her, mocking her as "Pocahontas".

She called for steeper taxes on the rich, strong anti-corruption legislation, curbs on lobbyists and a defense of the climate. Cory Booker and more, while U.S. Sen.

Donald Trump says he isn't concerned about potentially squaring off against Elizabeth Warren in the 2020 USA presidential election.

Warren did not refer to her Native American claims, but she repeatedly mentioned race and the added difficulties confronting minorities.

She has been forced to apologise for claiming on several occasions in her early political career that she was of Native American descent.

"I can't go back", Warren told The Washington Post. Amy Klobuchar is announcing her bid Sunday in her home state of Minnesota. "This go-around, Warren needs to deal with the issue now, rather than in October 2020". In coming days, she plans events in Georgia, South Carolina, Nevada and California.

Ms Warren's crossover into politics began with her opposing what turned into a 2005 act limiting bankruptcy access for individuals.

She also backed a constitutional amendment to ensure the right to vote, and she advocated for tightening ethics requirements on members of Congress and even Supreme Court justices. "And she shouldn't presume that the scrutiny of her past is going to end as she formally launches her presidential campaign".

"Elizabeth Warren has already been exposed as a fraud by the Native Americans she impersonated and disrespected to advance her professional career, and the people of MA she deceived to get elected", campaign manager Brad Parscale said in a statement.

Another threat could come from a fellow senator who has yet to announce his own plans for 2020: Sanders. They're both leaders of the Democrats' liberal vanguard, but some Mr Sanders supporters are still upset she didn't support him during his 2016 primary run against Hillary Clinton. And as a senator from Vermont who won the New Hampshire primary, he would likely go into the Granite State as an early favorite if he made a decision to run again.

Tribal activists, who were sharply critical over DNA test and earlier refusal to address the harm it might have done to their interests, have mostly welcomed her apologies.

Despite their sparring history Ms Warren avoided taking direct jabs at President Trump - instead weaving specific policy prescriptions, such as the elimination of Washington "lobbying as we know it", into her remarks.
