  • Queen Elizabeth To Be Evacuated In Case Of Riots Post Brexit Report

The Prime Minister is due to speak with European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker in the morning followed by a meeting with council President Donald Tusk to formally urge them to reopen the Withdrawal Agreement that was signed off before Christmas.

But asked how she could convince the people of Northern Ireland to accept a Brexit deal which was stripped of the backstop, Mrs May said: "I'm not proposing to persuade people to accept a deal that doesn't contain that insurance policy for the future".

"We will find a way to deliver a Brexit that honors our commitments to Northern Ireland, commands broad support across the community in Northern Ireland and secures a majority in the Westminster Parliament", May will say, according to extracts of a speech released by her office. "There is no way to have a unilateral jumping out of the backstop".

On January 29, the House of Commons narrowly backed an amendment tabled by Conservative MP Graham Brady that would see the Prime Minister return to Brussels in search of alternative arrangements for the Irish backstop, whose current terms and conditions have proved unpopular with pro-Brexit Tories and the DUP.

The Ulster Unionist Party had met the British Prime Minister first, and leader Robin Swann said his party had a "very clear message" for the Prime Minister.

"There are definitely options for preserving the integrity of the single market even when Northern Ireland isn't part of it because it is part of Britain while at the same time meeting the desire to have, if possible, no border controls", Merkel said.

Irish Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Leo Varadkar and British Prime Minister Theresa May.

As Brussels waits for Britain to set out its plans, diplomats and officials in the rest of the European Union are increasingly expecting a delay to Brexit, due to take place on 29 March.

Mr Juncker also signalled a refusal to re-write the Withdrawal Agreement yesterday, insisting "alternative arrangements" could "never replace the backstop".

In search of elusive unity, May was meeting Wednesday with the DUP, which insists the backstop must be scrapped, and with other Northern Ireland parties who insist it must stay.

At this critical juncture, Northern Ireland is represented only by the Democratic Unionist party, which is not representative of the people on Brexit - and so much more.

"We are leaving on March 29", he said. He said executives at the firm had "commented on the need for us to come together and resolve the question of our future trade relationship with the European Union".

A statement to the House of Commons would not be enough, they added, pointing out that Lord Goldsmith's comments on the legal case for the Iraq War to the Lords were far more political and less explicit than his written advice for the government, the source added.

As a way to prevent a hard border, Brussels and London agreed a so-called backstop - basically a promise that unless the sides come up with a better idea then the United Kingdom would remain bound by European Union market and customs rules so that goods would not have to be checked.

Gloria Guevara, President & CEO, WTTC, said "a "no deal" Brexit would have a dramatic impact on one of the U.K.'s most significant sectors".

The premier has suggested that she is seeking "changes" to the controversial backstop in her Brexit deal, rather than its total removal from the UK's EU Withdrawal Agreement.

But Wallace said a solution would be found and accused politicians on both sides of the Brexit debate of spouting "hot air" on the border matter.
