"Pursuant to the request of Interim President Juan Guaido, and in consultation with his officials the United States will mobilize and transport humanitarian aid-medicine, surgical supplies, and nutritional supplements for the people of Venezuela". Addressing the failed regime change in Libya, he said that it turned out to be a "mistake" as it has created instability not only for the country but the whole region. "My advice to bankers, brokers, traders, facilitators, and other businesses: don't deal in gold, oil, or other Venezuelan commodities being stolen from the Venezuelan people by the Maduro mafia, " Bolton said in a tweet.

Pence said they were committed to the people of Venezuela before stressing that "Nicolas Maduro must go" for the people to have their rights.

"In a few weeks they will have to choose if they let much-needed aid into the country, or if they side with Nicolas Maduro", said Guaido, who recently offered an amnesty to members of the military in another effort to encourage them to defect from the Maduro administration.

Writing in an opinion piece published in The New York Times on Thurday, Guaido called Maduro's re-election on May 20, 2018, "illegitimate" and that, by continuing to stay in office, he was "usurping the presidency".

This month's protests, however, have received overwhelming support from overseas, with the U.S., Canada and many others already recognizing Guaido as Venezuela's legitimate leader.

Speaking to reporters in Romania's capital Bucharest, Çavuşoğlu said that "foreign intervention will not provide resolution, it could even spark a civil war".

The EU was nervous at the precedent of a self-declaration and has been reluctant to follow the US and most Latin American nations with immediate recognition of Guaido.

Asked by CNN's Christiane Amanpour whether he would accept USA military support, he said through an interpreter: "Here in Venezuela we are doing everything we can to put pressure, so that we don't have to come to a scenario that no one would wish to have". Erdoğan expressed his surprise and disappointment that Donald Trump was backing an apparent coup attempt. Valued at about $850 million, they are an important source of wealth in a country that has plunged into extreme poverty under Maduro's leadership. They form an important voting constituency in a swing state often critical to the outcome of USA national elections.

All eyes are on the military, which has so far been Maduro's main pillar of support, but there have been signs of unrest in the ranks.

Guaido stunned the world on January 23 when he declared himself acting president at an opposition rally.

As domestic and worldwide pressure on Maduro to step down mounts, a senior air force general disavowed him in a video that circulated earlier on Saturday, expressing his allegiance to parliament head and self-proclaimed interim president Juan Guaido.

Several individual European governments, including Spain, Germany and the United Kingdom, have made clear their intention to recognise Guaido.

"Once more they are playing the intimidation game, " Guaido said.
