The measles outbreak that has sickened 38 people in Washington state has spread to Hawaii and OR by travelers with the highly-contagious disease.

No new exposure sites were disclosed with the newly confirmed Clark County case. Of the 41 confirmed cases, 37 are people who were not immunized and four are unverified.

Washington Governor Jay Inslee last week declared a state of emergency because of the outbreak, and the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been consulting with local and state officials.

"Most Oregonians have been vaccinated against measles and are protected, but there are pockets of people within communities that have low immunizations rates", public health officials said. Two doses of the measles vaccine are 97 percent effective against infection, and in 2000, officials announced the disease had been eliminated from the U.S. Measles infections have been on the rise in recent years because of anti-vaccine sentiment and debunked claims the inoculations have a connection to autism.

NY health officials dealt with almost 200 cases.

There is now a measles outbreak that started in Washington and has made its way to OR, and anti-vaxxers are the sole cause of this retro death threat.

Those opposed to certain vaccines also object to an outside authority mandating what they put in their children's bodies, and some have concerns about the combination of the measles vaccine with the mumps and rubella immunizations, which is how it's routinely given. If exposed to the virus, anyone who is not immune is likely to get measles. But it is still a big problem in other parts of the world, and travelers infected overseas can bring the virus back and spread it, causing periodic outbreaks.

California state Sen. Richard Pan, a pediatrician who sponsored his state's bill, said he got death threats over it and had anti-vaccination advocates jam his phone lines and harass him on social media.

However, some parents are concerned their children are not eligible for the vaccinations. "I'm just so scared", she said.

Symptoms of measles can often be similar to cold or flu symptoms, including: fever, diarrhea, coughing, runny nose, red and watery eyes, and fatigue. The measles virus stays in the air for up to two hours after that person has left.
