  • Giuliani says Cohen talked about Trump Tower in Moscow through 2016 election

The Moscow deal ultimately did not materialize but Giuliani's remarks suggest that Trump's discussions about the project with Cohen may have dragged on months longer than had been publicly known.

Cohen was spearheading the project for the Trump Organization.

Trump's lead counsel, Rudy Giuliani, certainly wants to portray it this way. "'Rudy Giuliani: He lied for Trump, '" the president's attorney told the publication.

Giuliani said Monday in a three-sentence statement that his comments "did not represent the actual timing or circumstances of any discussions".

- January 18, 2019: In a rare public statement, a spokesman for special counsel Robert Mueller disputes the BuzzFeed report.

Trump Tower Moscow, according to a letter of intent signed by Trump, was to include prime office space, a 15-story hotel area, a fitness center, and a luxury spa that could be branded with Ivanka Trump's name. Earlier this month, he was forced to clean up a remark in which he asserted that he only could vouch that the president had not colluded with Russian Federation, rather than the whole campaign, a dramatic change of story.

"And even as Trump told the public he had no business deals with Russian Federation, the sources said Trump and his children Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr. received regular, detailed updates about the real estate development from Cohen, whom they put in charge of the project", the report added. He says he briefed Trump and his family members on the Russian Federation proposal through June 2016. Giuliani said Trump did not really remember when the conversations took place, but was comfortable with a general answer that Trump provided Mueller, which "would have covered all the way up to November of - covered all the way up to November 2016".

The Democrat also said he would "do everything necessary to make the [final Mueller] report public but more than that, because [the Trump administration] will fight us on this, we need to do our own investigations because at the end of the day if the Justice Department tries to stonewall the release of that report for whatever reason, the American people are going to need to know what happened, and we're going to have to press forth".

As FoxNews reports, NBC, the first national radio network in the United States, has injected $400 million into BuzzFeed - though neither media service is too obvious about the "strategic partnership" that may strike some as a curious relationship. Giuliani replied: "I shouldn't have said tapes". And then they abandoned the project.

Giuliani then went on to walk back his earlier comment about his legacy amid more questioning from Chotiner, saying he does not reflect on the historical significance of his tenure. A former federal prosecutor, he has also been the team's public face and, even if not the primary author of letters and other documents to the Mueller team, he has nonetheless helped develop strategy.
