Additionally, authorities "don't believe there was a social media connection" between Closs and Patterson and are working to figure out "how he became aware of Jayme", Fitzgerald said.

Jake Thomas Patterson, 21, was quickly arrested and jailed on kidnapping and homicide charges.

Finding Jayme alive has brought up a lot of emotions for kidnapping victims and families of missing children.

Newly released photos from the family of Jayme Closs say she is "full of big smiles" Saturday.

Speaking to Fox News, Jayme's aunt Kelly Engelhardt said, "We are beyond words".

Residents who knew Patterson described him as quiet.

"It's a awful feeling when you don't know where your kid is but I don't know how I would react if I was to have mine walk through that door".

"I was elected to keep people safe and not having that unknown out there", Fitzgerald said on Fox & Friends. "We see her picture everywhere and we have bracelets that we buy", said the woman at the cafe. Investigators say they've found no evidence of any online conversations between the two. The discovery ended an all-out search that gripped Wisconsin, with many people fearing the worst the longer she was missing.

Jayme was pictured smiling alongside her relieved aunt Jennifer Naiberg Smith, who gave permission for the image to be used after their emotional reunion.

As Jayme Closs starts her long road toward recovery following her kidnapping ordeal, investigators are working to piece together what happened during the almost three months she was in captivity.

Smart called Closs courageous, strong, and a powerful survivor - but also says there is a long road ahead.

Another aunt, Sue Naiberg Allard, posted that Jayme got "the most awaited hug ever" when he returned home.

On Thursday, Closs was able to escape from a cabin before flagging down a person walking a dog in Gordon and asking for help, authorities said. "She did not talk about why or how".

The 13-year-old is now in the care of other family members after her 88-day ordeal in captivity.

Patterson went to the Closs home outside Barron, Wisconsin, with the intention of taking Jayme, Fitzgerald said. Fitzgerald hasn't said whether Jayme was sexually assaulted but said Saturday that investigators believe Jake Patterson acted alone.

"Everybody has been praying for her and I think no matter where you go it's always a little chatter", said Jim Helman, who works at Tru Value. "I also have to concentrate on my own sister, and it hurts that we don't have closure".

Patterson had worked for less than two days at a turkey processing plant where Closs' parents worked, but the sheriff said he did not have any contact with them. As an example, Fitzgerald said Patterson shaved his head to avoid leaving any hair as evidence during the assault.

Jayme Closs was found alive by the suspect's neighbours on Thursday.

The cabin is in Eau Claire Acres, about 10 miles outside the tiny town of Gordon, in the dense evergreen forests of north-western Wisconsin.

Naiberg, Jayme's grandfather, said he spent a few hours with her on Friday and she was largely silent. No one pressed her to talk, he said, adding that Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and doctors advised them to let her speak when she's ready.

Patterson remained largely an enigma om Saturday.

He may have worked at another business in Barron but that hasn't been confirmed, the sheriff said.

Almost three years ago, Patterson worked for one day at the same meat products facility where Jayme's parents worked - the Jennie-O Turkey Store plant in Barron.

Authorities have said they don't believe Patterson crossed paths with Jayme's parents there.
