An emotional Murray admitted on Friday that his time as a professional is almost up due to the pain he still suffers, and revealed his hope to bow out at his home grand slam in the summer.

"The serve was always a thing that I tried to improve, and I think I did".

Murray announced on Friday that 2019 is likely to be his last on the ATP Tour due to the ongoing hip problems that have troubled him for the past 18 months.

"Ideally he would want to play there, but I imagine once you make the decision that you are going to stop it must get very hard to keep going with the rehab, never-ending exercising, and putting up with the pain". It was the most demanding, engrossing and palpitating event I have seen in sport - and I wasn't even there.

Halep, who has not won a match since Cincinnati last summer, opens her Melbourne campaign against big-hitting Kaia Kanepi on Tuesday, a rematch of their first-round encounter at the US Open last fall.

Asked about the possibility of a statue for Murray when appearing on BBC Radio, Lewis said: "For sure. That won't happen now".

Federer has credited improvements in travel, in nutrition and in life balance for giving modern tennis players the ability to extend their careers well into their 30s.

And 14-time major victor Djokovic hailed Murray in an Instagram post on the eve of the Australian Open in Melbourne. "I just enjoy the moment with the shoes, then I'll think about the match".

Childhood friend Rafael Nadal said: "We shared court in the most important stadiums in the world, competing for the most important things". His birthday is one week before mine. "It's not easy to win Grand Slams, it's probably easier today than when we were playing", she told the BBC past year. We played lots of epic matches in the professional circuit.

"I think I was seeking confirmation about my level of play", he said. He will continue playing through the Australian Open, noting, "I can still play to a level, not a level I'm happy playing at".

And the doctor who conducted the surgery concedes that playing up until the tournament at Sw19 will be hugely challenging for the three-time grand slam champion.

"I know what Denis did to Novak", Federer said. But it was for a good cause.

"After I practiced with Verdasco I told my team in the locker room, like "This is it, I need to know when this is over", revealed the former world number one, per the Daily Mail.

"It's kind of sad to know that he might play his last Australian Open but I do wish him all the best".

HIBS have paid tribute to Sir Andy Murray for his "incredible" career and the help he has offered two of the club's rising stars.

"I am knowing her now for a few years so I knew she could be much fitter but it's just a question of time".

"First of all, previous year she made an incredible effort to come back in shape after having a baby and actually she came back in a decent shape quite fast", Mouratoglou told Reuters in an interview.
