Most believed Bryce Harper would have a bevy of suitors on the open market.

Without question, joining a team with potential like Philadelphia could work wonders for a player like Harper, especially when seeing all of the extra games he would get to face his former team in the Washington Nationals. While it is hard to say with confidence if either report is accurate, the White Sox have made their interest to Manny Machado known throughout the offseason and have the financial flexibility to offer a substantial deal. Many are speculating that the Yankees have a great shot at locking up the 26-year-old superstar, but nothing is set in stone yet. The deal on the table was said to be a long-term contract, but worth around $200 million and not the $300 million offer the shortstop was targeting.

For instance, a four-year deal at a guaranteed $160 million ($40 mill per season average) could put Harper back into the free agent market again at age 30. But today, the tone changes for the Chicago White Sox, as a different star free agent took the headlines. It will be interesting to see whether or not the Sox land him, knowing that they have also been "all-in" on Harper as well. The only winning team with a clear path to Harper is the Dodgers after they traded away Matt Kemp and Yasiel Puig. Apparently, The 10-year $300m offer was actually just the team's 1st offer to Harper.

Harper turned down a 10-year, $300 million offer from the Nationals earlier this off-season, and Nationals' owner Ted Lerner has been reluctant to go over that number, but a new report suggests there may be movement on that front. "Maybe even into spring training".

Chicago has not yet made a formal offer to Harper but the club has been in "constant contact" with his reps and met with Harper, his wife, and his agent Scott Boras in Las Vegas six weeks ago.
