  • Netflix Announces ‘Stranger Things’ Season 3 Premiere Date (Watch)

Stranger Things 3 will debut on July 4, 2019.

Created by Matt and Ross Duffer, Stranger Things has been a huge hit for Netflix with its mix of horror and sci-fi, and the copious nostalgic references to 80s pop culture. It seemed likely that the release date would come soon after.

Before that tweet, Netflix shared a retro video showing parts of Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve countdown from December 31, 1984. It's fit with crackling audio and VHS tape lines, and includes footage from Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve in the moments leading up to the "big apple" dropping to usher in 1985.

Though specifics of the third season of "Stranger Things" have been kept under wraps, Netflix's Cindy Holland told Deadline in July 2018 that fans can expect "more special effects" when the series returns this summer. For example, what does 'WHEN BLUE AND YELLOW MEET IN THE WEST?' mean?

Stranger Things season three will drop on Netflix on Thursday, July 4 from 5pm.

A new poster has also been released which teases, "One Summer can change everything".

"We're thinking it will be a four-season thing and then out", Ross Duffer told Vulture past year.

The New Year is already off to a great start with a message from Hawkins.

"Hearts were heard breaking in Netflix headquarters when the Brothers made four seasons sound like an official end, and I was suddenly getting phone calls from our actors' agents", says Levy.
