Egypt's interior ministry said the two fatalities and most of the injured were Vietnamese nationals.

The improvised explosive device was placed near a wall along the Mariyutiya Street in the Haram district near the Giza Pyramids, the statement said.

"The DFA today advised Filipinos planning to travel to Egypt to exercise a higher level of vigilance when visiting tourist destinations there", the agency said in a statement.

This picture taken on 28 December 2018 shows a tourist bus which was attacked being towed away from the scene, in Giza province south of the Egyptian capital Cairo.

"No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack and it was not clear whether the vehicle had struck the bomb or whether it was launched from the side of the road", adds the Daily Mail.

The ministry confirmed that two Vietnamese tourists were killed when a roadside bomb went off, while the state prosecutor's office said a third tourist died later.

Ahmed Samy, who drives a three-wheeled taxi, said he saw the mangled bus after the blast as people rushed to help the injured get out.

What do we know of Friday's attack?

In July 2017, two German tourists were stabbed to death by a suspected Islamic militant at the Egyptian Red Sea beach resort of Hurgada. "It was bad, people screaming", she told Reuters, speaking at al-Haram hospital, where the injured were taken.

The following year just 5.3 million tourists visited, according to the World Bank.
