CFIA announces recall of cauliflower, lettuce because of E. coli fears

A California farm has issued a recall of cauliflower that was distributed to wholesalers to states across the country, including Arizona, over possible E. coli contamination.

Farming, Inc.in Santa Maria said Thursday that it is voluntarily recalling red leaf lettuce, green leaf lettuce and cauliflower that was harvested from November 27 to November 30.

So far, no illnesses connected to those lettuces and cauliflower have been reported.

Farming in Santa Marie, Calif., is recalling cauliflower that was sold to wholesalers in 10 states, including North Carolina, because it may be contaminated with E. coli. However, romaine lettuce is not on the recall list.

None of the filtered and treated water has tested positive for the bacteria though.


Filtered and treated water from the reservoir may have come in contact with the product after it was harvested. Most people recover within a week, but some illnesses can last longer and be more severe.

Giant Eagle is voluntarily recalling red and green leaf lettuce sold in western Pennsylvania from December 3 - 14. The statement urges consumers to return recalled products to where they purchased it or discard of the produce immediately. Farming, Inc.'s products. The red leaf lettuce was only distributed in Minnesota and Tijuana, Mexico.

The FDA asked producers and distributors of romaine lettuce to begin labeling their products with the harvest location and harvest date.

The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said in updates this week that they traced the strain back to a reservoir at a farm owned by Adam Bros.
