Pakistan will no longer act as a hired gun in someone else's war, Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Friday, striking a note of defiance against USA demands for Islamabad to do more in the battle against militancy.

Those who had been asking Pakistan to do more to support the US-led war effort wanted it to mediate between Afghan warlords and the government in Kabul, Khan told a group of students from Balochistan.

During last month's exchange with Mr Trump, the Pakistani leader said his country had suffered 75,000 casualties and lost $123bn (£95.7bn) during America's so-called war on terror despite no one from his country being involved in the 9/11 attacks.

Khan said he wanted a relationship with the USA like the one with China - "not one-dimensional" and a "trade relationship". "Bear in mind that about 40 percent of Afghanistan is now out of the government's hands".

Addressing a gathering after the ceremony, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan had said that his government will create various facilities for the pilgrims, including hotels and restaurants.

Responding to a question regarding his vision for Pakistan's relationship with the US, PM Imran said, "I would never want to have a relationship where Pakistan is treated like a hired gun - given money to fight someone else's war".

This week the Pakistani foreign ministry said Khan had been sent a letter by US President Donald Trump seeking Islamabad's support in securing a peace deal.

"Exxon has come back to Pakistan after 27 years, and they're doing a big exploration for us".

In an interview with TOLOnews, the U.S. ambassador said the USA is not negotiating on behalf of the Afghan government as he pointed at the efforts by the United States on Afghan peace.

"Apart from Afghanistan it is Pakistan", Ambassador Lodhi said, "that has endured the greatest suffering and damage from the strife, violence and instability in Afghanistan".

On November 28, Mr Khan laid the foundation stone of the Kartarpur corridor on the Pakistani side while on November 26, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh laid its foundation stone in Punjab's Gurdaspur.

"We have already fenced more than 600-kilometer proton of the border. The construction of forts and new posts has also been completed by 60 percent.God willing when the entire fence would be in place by the end of next year, we assume the cross-border threat facing us will reduce to a large extent". "The exchange was about being blamed for deeply flawed USA policies - the military approach to Afghanistan". "If there are a few hundred, maybe 2,000 to 3,000 Taliban [jihadis] who move into Pakistan, they could easily move into these Afghan refugee camps", he declared. He also rejected the interviewer's suggestion that he is "anti-American" because of his positions, and denied that Pakistan is supporting the Taliban.

"We also want something done about the bombers of Mumbai". "By becoming the front-line state for the U.S.in the war on terror, this country went through hell", he said. "It was the first time I saw a welfare state", he said.
