  • I didn't consider it sexual harassment- Ballon d'Or winner Hegerberg clears up DJ twerking row

Norway and Lyon forward Ada Hegerberg became the first woman to win the prestigious Ballon d'Or award, which recognises the best football player in the world.

Asked after the conclusion of the ceremony if she felt Solveig's comment was sexist, Hegerberg said, per AP's John Leicester, that she "didn't take it as that at all".

She added: "He came to see me after and apologised".

The co-host of the Ballon d'Or ceremony asked the Norwegian global and Lyon's forward Ada Hegerberg to twerk on stage after she became the first female victor ever in this prestigious award ceremony. "Being a women's footballer and winning the Ballon d'Or tonight is a step for me to take that action, personally".

She helped her team, Lyon, snare a Champions League title for a record fifth time, scoring 15 goals, according to AFP.

This season, she has chipped in an additional 12 league goals and a further four in Europe.

"Why do women still have to put up with that s***?", the former world No 1 tennis player said on Instagram.

When questioned on the subject in the mixed zone, Ada Hegerberg, all his happiness had lifted the precious trophy, did not wish to fuel the controversy and overwhelm with Martin Solveig.

What was supposed to be an uplifting moment, though, was marred by Martin Solveig.

Andy Murray was among those on social media who criticised Solveig's comment, notes The Guardian, calling it "another example of the ridiculous sexism in sport".

"Sincere apologies to anyone I may have offended".

Speaking to the BBC, the footballer said, "He came to me afterwards and was really sad that it went that way. The Ballon d'Or is the most important thing".

The two-time Wimbledon victor and Olympic double gold medalist added: "And to everyone who thinks people are overreacting and it was just a joke. I've been involved in sport my whole life and the level of sexism is unreal".

Luka Modric won the Men's Ballon d'Or award on the same night, ending the decade long dominance of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

"Sometimes you have episodes or situations where you feel like, 'Damn, we're in such a man's world, '" she said.
