This is good news for fans who've been enjoying the show on Netflix, and experienced a massive freakout when they saw an onscreen message proclaiming the show would only be available to stream until January 1, 2019. After fans went insane (and even started a petition to keep the show on the platform), Netflix made everyone's Christmas wish come true, courtesy of a Ross Geller meme.

However, the future of Friends on Netflix is still uncertain. After a brief scare this morning in which fans noticed that the show's Netflix page showed an expiration date for January 1, 2019 - prompting a slew of panicked articles and thinkpieces raving about the show - Netflix has denied that Friends will be leaving the service. With HBO, Warner Bros., and TBS, WarnerMedia's content is a bit more diffuse. The untitled streaming platform is pegged to launch at the end of 2019. The video streaming company said it would retain the long-running sitcom for users in the United States - at least through 2019. In 2014, when Netflix first bought those rights, it paid $500,000 an episode.

"Can't sleep so was trying to enjoy some Friends. then Netflix gives me the notification that friends is LEAVING NETFLIX ON JANUARY 1st".

Losing Friends will be a big blow for Netflix as the comedy is the third most popular sitcom in the USA behind The Big Bang Theory and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

However, "Friends" may be entering its final year on Netflix, given that the show's owner, WarnerMedia, is debuting its own streaming service towards the end of 2019. One of the main reasons Netflix produces so much original content is to have a robust enough library that users won't cancel their subscriptions when stuff like Friends leaves.
