Deontay Wilder retained his WBC heavyweight crown after battling to a split decision draw against Britain's Tyson Fury in a pulsating 12-round battle. Fury, after cracking the WBC champion, continued with his ducking and dodging in the second round before Wilder cracked him with a shot on the chin right before the bell.

Deontay Wilder still hopes to face Anthony Joshua in a heavyweight unification bout but is happy to hand rival Tyson Fury a rematch following their epic draw.

Wilder said his two knockdowns meant he "definitely won the fight". "We poured our hearts out tonight". That's when both hulking men heard a verdict that didn't satisfy them, but almost guaranteed a rematch of this exciting showdown.

Wilder, who remains unbeaten after 41 fights, immediately called for a rematch.

"At the end of the day that [a rematch] is down to Tyson, but from my perspective I'd love the rematch", he said. "You see many of these rich people's kids doing nothing because they had it too easy".

"Tyson will fight in the United Kingdom again".

Fury meanwhile insisted he had done enough to win. I got knocked down but I still believe I won the fight. That man is a fearsome puncher and I was able to avoid that.

"Sing along if you know the words!"

"I'm happy for the fight", Fury said.

There was one title change in a special match held in Montreal prior to the pay-per-view's start, as Oleksandr Gvozdyk stopped Adonis Stevenson in the 11th round to become the new WBC light heavyweight champion. We're the two best in the world, and we proved it tonight, you know.

Trainer Dave Coldwell tweeted: "I gave Wilder two 10-8s and one other round". But just when the fight was turning into a one-sided landslide victory in favor of Fury, Wilder turned things around in a hurry.

While the most common circumstances are for the defending champion, in this case Wilder, to have such an option, it has also been extended to the 30-year-old Fury, who had not planned such a risky fight so soon into his comeback and who is still regarded by some as the division's lineal champion. Fury (27-0-1, 19 KOs) climbed back to his feet and eventually cleared his head, but it seemed as though all momentum had shifted in Wilder's favor.

According to CompuBox punch statistics, Wilder landed 71 of 430 shots (17 percent), and Fury landed 84 of 327 (26 percent).

Judge Robert Tapper scored the fight 114-110 for Fury, while Alejandro Rochin favored Wilder 115-111.

Any rematch between Wilder and Fury is guaranteed to be the most lucrative fight of their career to date. And after he got up, Fury was pushing him back.

Wilder responded with increasingly desperate flurries of big punches, very few of which found their mark.
