Since 2005 we have almost cut in half the number of people dying because of AIDS, and we have dramatically increased the number of people living with HIV on treatment.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was present when Mr Russell-Moyle made the announcement, of which he felt "relieved" to have done so. Key populations often have legal and social issues related to their behaviors that increase vulnerability to HIV and reduce access to testing and treatment programmes. The aim of the event was to sensitize people from all walks of life on HIV/AIDS and motivate them to come forward and get tested to know about their HIV status while ensuring that all HIV positive cases are put on treatment.

So it is really important that more and more people have a HIV test, he said.

According to Moeti, HIV testing empowers people to make choices about HIV prevention specifically how to protect themselves and their loved ones.

We have seen progress both at home, through initiatives such as the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program, and overseas, through the success of the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, which marks its 15th anniversary this year.

On the stigma surrounding HIV, Mr Russell-Moyle added: "Of course there are low level elements of stigma in every day life, in terms of just lack of knowledge, people reacting with guttural reaction".

Mr Corbyn said the speech was fearless and historic.

"It is one of the scientific miracles or medical miracles that we have achieved in the last 20 years". The year's theme is Know Your Status - a movement that is envisaged to reach people living with HIV whose status is unknown by encouraging testing and linking them to quality care and life-saving treatment services.

Chris Smith, a former Labour government minister who was the first openly gay British lawmaker, disclosed he was HIV positive in 2005. "I thought my partners were safe", Rohan said, and he was proved wrong.

He added that it was Nelson Mandela's speech on HIV awareness that "tipped him over the edge" to eventually talk about it.

Dr. Christoph Hamelmann, the WHO Representative in the Islamic Republic of Iran, during a surprise visit to a Drop-in Center in Kerman on November 28 took a HIV test to highlight this year's theme of World AIDS Day 2018 as "Know Your Status". Further, the stigmatization and deliberate denial of existence of sexual minorities in the country also continue to fuel the spread of the HIV virus, and has undermined the ability of the individuals involved to seek the necessary support and treatment.

In February 2017, the CDC rolled out High-impact Prevention (HIP), its HIV prevention planwhich includes HIV testing, treatment-as-prevention, needle exchange and PrEPbut NO mention of condoms.
