  • Fury was the clear winner on many scorecards

Wilder (40-0-1, 39 KOs) was making his eighth title defense. While Joshua ended up facing his WBA mandatory challenger, Alexander Povetkin, back on September 22, Wilder took the fight with Fury.

Fury is aiming to reach the mountaintop of the heavyweight division - a position he once enjoyed after his win over the legendary Wladimir Klitschko in 2015.

The 12-round fight went the distance even as Wilder knocked Fury down twice in the ninth and 12th rounds.

Both fighters are expected to meet again in a rematch, with Fury determined to prove himself as the rightful victor in a second fight. The sixth round warning from the referee in the sixth round for both to show more urgency. But a huge straight right from Fury gave the champion something to think about, and was perhaps the Englishman's best punch at that point.

Wilder almost stopped Fury in the 12th round with a hard knockdown, but Fury survived and stormed back for a memorable round of the year candidate in a fight that is likely to see a sequel.

In the seventh Wilder seemed to sense his tactics were paying dividends, as the 30-year-old Fury's footwork began to slow, and with every step, Wilder would gain estate. Listen, I'm not going to take anything from Wilder, he's a great champion and a great man.

Wilder, who remains unbeaten after 41 fights, immediately called for a rematch. After a few seconds he then approached the champion and shared an embrace with Wilder, which melted the hearts of the watching millions.

Judge Phil Edwards and the Associated Press scored it a 113-113 draw, with Wilder's knockdowns compensating for Fury's superior technique.

"The AJ fight is up to them, they have to stop being cowards, we are moving on from him", Wilder said.
