  • Police hunting couple who lost engagement ring in Times Square

Comments by netizens have been largely positive, with many saying this is what they love about NY, and others praising the city's police force.

Now, the New York Police Department is looking for the couple who dropped the ring through the grate.

The panicked couple sought the help of the police to find the diamond ring, which had fallen nearly 2.5m into the city's utility system.

Eventually, police found it but had no way of contacting the couple.

After seeing the footage officers managed to rescue the ring, clean it up and now want to find its owners.

The good news is that officers from the New York Police Department clearly have a romantic side and, more importantly, access to the grate, so could get it out quite easily.

Police have released surveillance photos of the couple and are asking the public to help reunite them with the ring.

According to a Tweet from NYPD, the woman said yes, but the man was reportedly "so excited" that it caused him to drop the ring.
