  • Saudi Crown Prince receives 'firm message' on Khashoggi probe at G20 summit

The killing of Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist, has strained Riyadh's relations with the West and battered bin Salman's image overseas.

"Don't worry", Prince Mohammed is heard saying in English to the French leader, who responds, "I do worry".

On Wednesday Mattis said there's "no smoking gun" connecting the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to the Saudi crown prince he had often criticised.

Mr Trump later said there was "no discussion" but did not rule out holding longer talks with the crown prince during the two-day summit.

In an interview with CBS This Morning co-host John Dickerson, Sen. Bob Corker said he thinks Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is responsible for Jamal Khashoggi's brutal murder, whether there is ultimately a smoking gun or not.

MBS and Putin could be seen smiling broadly as they spoke together:Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman speaks with Russia's President Vladimir Putin during the opening of the G20 leaders summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina November 30, 2018.

"No, I will listen, of course", bin Salman replies, prior to bursting into laughter.

Macron told Prince Mohammed that Europeans wanted global investigators to take part in the probe on Khashoggi's death and stressed "the necessity of a political solution in Yemen", the Elysee Palace said.

Saudi Crown Prince receives 'firm message' on Khashoggi probe at G20 summit

Saudi-owned broadcaster Al Arabiya posted video on Twitter showing a cordial handshake between bin Salman and Chinese President Xi Jinping as the two held a bilateral meeting.

While at the G20 summit, French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Theresa May have both reportedly had words with the prince. But the crown prince's reputation has taken a turn after the murder of Khashoggi in Turkey.

Saudi Arabia's public prosecutor has said the Crown Prince knew nothing of the operation to kill Khashoggi.

Proposed US congressional legislation on Yemen, even if passed, is unlikely to impact on Saudi Arabia's ability to pursue the war in Yemen due to available Egyptian, Emerati, and Israeli support.

Mr. Trump canceled his previously scheduled meeting with Putin on Thursday after he was briefed on the incident.

White House spokesperson Sarah Sanders insists the reason for the cancellation was the situation with Ukraine, but said the probe into possible collusion between the Trump presidential campaign and Russian Federation was damaging ties between the two countries.

The demonstrators also accused the G20 group of countries of concentrating too much on financial interests and globalization, while condemning austerity measures proposed by Argentina's government and backed by the International Monetary Fund, a dignitary at the summit.
