Incoming US Rep. Pressley backing Pelosi for House speaker

House Democrats will likely nominate Pelosi at a caucus vote Wednesday. The group was formed several years ago by the centrist organization No Labels, in part to blunt the power of ultraconservative Republicans who have had an outsize influence on their leaders during their years in the majority. She faces a test Wednesday, when Democrats meet behind closed doors to cast secret ballots for their leaders.

Tim Ryan of OH and Kathleen Rice of NY - met with Pelosi on Wednesday and asked her to produce "a meaningful plan for a leadership transition" to "allow a new generation of leadership to step forward".

Democrats voted "overwhelmingly" to nominate Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for Speaker of the House Wednesday afternoon, clearing away any suspicion that an "insurgency" among Democrats might derail the ancient California Democratic representative's plans to return to the helm of her party.

"I am disappointed to report that no agreement was reached in this initial meeting", Moulton said. If Cox holds on to his small lead, Pelosi could lose 17 Democratic votes and still be elected speaker.

Incoming U.S. House Democrat Gil Cisneros said Monday that he wants new leadership in the chamber and will support the push to replace Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi.

Pelosi, now the House Democratic leader and a national political fixture for decades, wants to lead the party's challenge to President Donald Trump's political and legislative agendas. Higgins went as far as to gave her a full endorsement in exchange for a role leading a Medicare buy-in bill and a promise the House would vote on an infrastructure bill, a longstanding bipartisan priority.

During Tuesday's "Morning Joe" on MSNBC, Representative-elect Jahana Hayes (D-CT) shared her support of House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in her bid for House speaker.

But Pelosi has been deftly picking off opponents - including nine who announced their support Wednesday as voting was underway - a trend she'll need to accelerate in the weeks ahead.

After more than a year of party angst about needing fresh and younger faces in leadership, House Democrats will nearly certainly emerge from their internal caucus election with the same three people in its top three posts: Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer and James Clyburn.

One member who signed a letter being circulated by opponents, Rep. Linda Sanchez of California, said the real fight will come in January. 'Has she negotiated and given them some of the things that they want? Yes.

"We all agree that history is in a hurry, and we need to accelerate the pace of change in Congress", she said.

"She has shown her capacity to work hard, traveling the country without fanfare to support extraordinarily talented candidates she helped recruit from coast to coast". She held that office until January 2011.

Despite initially having an uncertain future in the wake of an election brought forth by a surge of outsider, anti-establishment candidates, opposition to the longtime California Democrat has dwindled and some of the hardline anti-Pelosi Democrats have completely flipped their positions. Right now, if the current vote tally stands, she appears short of that number, with a very slim margin for error.
