President, PM lead congratulatory messages for 'Magnificent' Mary

Mary Kom has become the most successful women boxer at the Worlds as she defeated Ukraine's Hanna Okhota in Women's 48kg light flyweight final of the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championship here at the KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium on Saturday.

Social media was flooded with congratulatory messages for Mary Kom with actors, politicians, notable athletes and fans paying tribute to arguably one of the greatest boxers of all time. A packed crowd waited for Mary Kom to come out in the first final of the day.

Sonia Chahal surprised one and all as she on to win the silver medal in the 57 kg weight category at the World Championships. With her six gold and one silver in the World Championships, she has matched Cuban men's legend Felix Savon medal haul.

"I don't have anything to give to the country except for a gold medal". Come to think of it, she has won more World Championship medals than many nations have managed in 10 editions.

Mary Kom is also the brand ambassador of this IIFA Women's World Championship Competition.

Many other B-town celebrities lauded Mary Kom over her latest feat. What an achievement. Congratulations Mary Kom.

Returning in 2016, with an eye on the Olympic Games later that year, she left the 48kg class spot to Sarjubala Devi and lost to Germany's Azize Nimani in the second round in the 51kg class in Astana, Kazakhstan.
