Lee is one of many notable alumni from DeWitt Clinton High School, including comic book pioneer Will Eisner and Batman co-creator Bob Kane, who both attended DeWitt Clinton a few years before Lee. He was given carte blanche to try out new superhero concepts and, in collaboration with Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, and other artists, delivered the building blocks of what would later become the Marvel Universe in 1961.

He was able to publish his prolific creations including Thor, Ant-Man, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Cyclops, Marvel Girl and many more. Lee appeared in cameo roles in the Marvel Films and his last appearance was in "Avengers - Age of Ultron". Lee seemed vigorous and spirited when, not too long ago, he posted video to his social media updating everyone on his condition after recent allegations of elder abuse and predatory activities by his business manager.

Shortly afterwards, "Stan Lee's Lucky Man" debuted overseas. Lee revolutionized the comic world by creating Marvel Comics superheroes such as Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four and The Incredible Hulk.

Of course, Stan Lee's reach wasn't just tied to Marvel. Spider-Man, created by Lee in 1962, was his favourite.

Mr. Foster, who started reading Marvel Comics in the 1960s, said one reason they appealed to him was because they started including people of color in the background.

So it's with great sadness that I join in with the millions of superhero and movie fans to mourn the passing of the legendary Stan Lee, the mind behind great characters like Spiderman, Storm, Rogue and Iron Man. Without Stan Lee, Marvel would not be where it is today.

The world was devastated yesterday to learn that comic book legend and chairman of Marvel, Stan Lee, passed away. The likes of the Avengers: Infinity War directors, much of the MCU, and beyond have paid tribute to a man who has been described as a "genius".

Evans tweeted: "There will never be another Stan Lee". His roots at Marvel go back to 1939, when the company was still called Timely Comics.
