  • Sarkar collects Rs 75 Cr on its opening day

"Sarkar" had earlier courted a row after an aspiring filmmaker claimed that the film's story was his, following which director Murugadoss went in for a compromise with him.

With the said scene announced to be removed, a new and re-edited version of Sarkar will begin playing in theatres from today (09.11.2018).

Earlier in the day, Tamil "Superstar" Rajinikanth threw his weight behind Vijay, questioning the AIADMK's rationale in protesting against a film certified by the censor board.

In the petition filed, Murugadoss stated that despite the backlash the film has been receiving from members of the AIADMK, his intention was never to hurt anyone.

On Thursday, a complaint was also filed with the Chennai city police commissioner urging him to take action against director AR Murugadoss under section 124A (Sedition) of the IPC for insulting the state government.

After the protest of ADMK cadres, team Sarkar has agreed to remove the controversial scene in the film. They also said that the objectionable content was already censored by the makers.

AIADMK has alleged that scenes in the movie criticise previous Tamil Nadu Government of J Jayalalithaa. It also said that no viewer was offended by what they saw. In that scene, he's seen throwing a mixer-grinder into a fire with the picture of the chief minister. "So the issue has come to an end". "I condemn this act".

The AIADMK ministers demanded deletion of the contentious scenes, besides threatening to initiate legal action if the film crew failed to comply.

Tamil Nadu Law minister CV Shanmugam was quoted by Times Now, "Through this movie, an attempt is made to instigate violence in society". However, Sun Picture is yet to make an official statement regarding the same.
