The previous largest single jackpot of $758.7 million was won last year by Mavis Wanczyk, a 53-year-old mother of two from MA.

The next Mega Millions draw will be held on Tuesday.

The $1.6 billion estimated jackpot would be the largest prize in USA history.

The Mega Millions lottery in the USA may see a streak of jackpot rollovers end as it heads towards a record $US1.6 billion ($2.2 billion).

"If sales are running ahead, we may take the jackpot up another notch", Mega Millions lead director Gordon Medenica told The Post.

Saturday's drawing followed a Mega Millions drawing Friday for a massive jackpot that neared $1 billion.

The winning numbers are 16, 54, 57,62 and 69.

A Spanish lottery called El Gordo typically generates a larger purse than Mega Millions or Powerball, but that money is split between many different winners and no single prize in El Gordo approaches the size of the latest Mega Millions jackpot, Elkin said.

But if you are itching to play, you could win even more on Tuesday.

The game, which was created in 2002, has seen changes over the years that have reduced the chances of winning, meaning bigger and bigger jackpots.

Lottery officials say there were no jackpot winners in Saturday's drawing.

"We have a demand for innovation to keep fresh, entertaining lottery games and to deliver the attention-grabbing jackpots", said former Mega Millions President Debbie D. Alford at the time.

The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are one in 302,575,350, but the odds of winning any of the lesser prizes are one in 24.
