Major League Baseball has fined Manny Machado for running into Jesús Aguilar

  • The Brewers have one of the best bullpens in baseball, but it's the rotation that has produced unexpected heroes

Machado appeared to apologize to Aguilar during the game and explained to reporters what he was trying to do on the play.

Machado, who was running to first base on a routine ground ball to shortstop, clipped Aguilar's right foot as he was crossing the base, sparking a controversy between the two teams which caused the benches to clear.

"I don't think we're too concerned about any other teams' comments about our players", Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday before Game 5. It's a dirty play by a dirty player. His response, "I don't know". Counsell said he doesn't expect advanced warnings from the umpiring crew and brushed aside the notion that Machado's antics would spark unnecessary distractions.

Major League Baseball fined Machado an undisclosed amount Wednesday, a day after the baserunning incident caused the benches to clear at Dodger Stadium and prompted Brewers MVP candidate Christian Yelich to call Machado a "dirty player".

"He has a history of those types of incidents", Yelich told reporters. Yelich said if a play like that happened one time from Machado it might be considered an accident, but he sees it as a pattern.

Aguilar said the two talked it out after Machado singled in the 13th. We go way back since the minor leagues.

"You saw the replay, probably".

It irritated Brewers players so much that superstar outfielder Christian Yelich came out after the game to say that it was a "dirty play by a dirty player". Machado had 37 homers and 107 RBIs in the regular season, and he batted.242 with three homers and nine RBIs in the first eight games of the postseason.

Machado, whose late slide past year injured Boston second baseman Dustin Pedroia, has been checked a couple times in this NLCS because of close slides into second. In an interview with Fox Sports 1 that aired before Game 4, he acknowledged there was "no excuse" for not making more effort, but also displayed an attitude that won't endear him to the old school.

Aguilar, who wasn't hurt on the play, said he and Machado "turned the page" afterward.
