Persistent rainfall and potential flooding have been predicted in Preston this weekend.

The amber warning remains in place until 6pm on Saturday, while the broader yellow rain and wind warnings that include parts of north-west and south-west England, western Scotland and Northern Ireland will remain in place until midnight on Friday.

The UK Met Office warned of "heavy rain during Friday and continuing into Saturday" with "fast flowing or deep floodwater" likely which may cause "danger to life".

Up to 5 inches (120-160 mm) of rain is possible over higher ground in the south and southwest of the United Kingdom, approaching the region's monthly average.

The high winds, combined with heavy rain, could see leaves and twigs blocking drains, making flooding more likely, meteorologist Sarah Kent said.

There is a chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.

Storm Callum has the Emerald Isle well and truly in his grips.

"The strongest winds are expected across Northern Ireland during the morning".

"The Met office have issued two YELLOW be aware weather warning for rain for the Scottish Borders".

"High tides are also near their peak, heightening the risk of coastal impacts due to large waves".

The warning comes into affect from 5am on Friday lasting throughout the day until 9pm.

On Saturday, areas over high ground could see a further 50 to 80mm of rain.

Winds of up to 60 miles per hour are also expected to hit Pembrokeshire, which combined with high tides could lead to some coastal impact due to large waves.

Translink has warned of disruption and speed restrictions across it's network, and the Belfast Glider service may also be affected due to poor road conditions.

Flood warnings remained throughout Wales.

A yellow warning remains in place across Northern Ireland and much of the United Kingdom until midnight as Storm Callum sweeps in from the Atlantic.

Valley Line services into Cardiff and trains on the Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury Cambrian Line are expected to run as usual after the tracks are cleared of flood water.
