  • UK Weather: Met Office Issues Yellow Rain Warnings As Storm Callum Approaches

In Galway, Mayo, Donegal, Sligo, and Clare, the orange warning will remain in place until 5pm on Friday.

Met Office meteorologist Greg Dewhurst said: "Storm Callum is coming from the middle of the Atlantic".

Areas in the south and south west could see between 50 and 100mm of rain by the end of Friday, with as much as 120 to 160mm falling over high, south-facing ground.

Pembrokeshire County Council is also warning residents to be aware of the potential for danger and disruption.

Rainfall is expected to reach up to 10cm and could cause flooding, as well as making driving conditions hard for those affected.

A yellow alert was in place at the beginning of the week, as the city battles gale-force winds and flash floods due to high volumes of rain.

"Preparations are well underway to ensure we have engineers and equipment and customer care teams on hand to respond to faults should they come in".

Winds of 50mph will batter Northern Ireland, southwest England and west Wales during Thursday night, spreading to Scotland by Friday morning. Expect the unexpected. Watch out for falling/fallen debris on the road and vehicles veering across the road.

Pembrokeshire County Council is working with multi-agency partners to monitor the situation. "Our various crews will be on stand by in relation to the potential flooding event on Friday morning".

Winds of up to 130km are expected, possibly going even higher in coastal areas.

A National Emergency Coordination group has now been set up in order to deal with the storm. Fallen leaves will lead to blocked drains and flooding issues. There will be rough seas and large waves, making coastal areas unsafe.

Winds will be strongest overnight and early on Friday, gusting between 110 and 130 km/h at coasts.

"Though the winds will ease down by late morning/forenoon, a sting in the tail will follow, with a deterioration likely again later, as the trailing waving weather front potentially feeds up further pulses of heavy rain from the south, with the possibility of a further core of severe southerly gusts for south, southeast and east coasts towards evening".

"Enough rainfall to cause flooding, communities to be cut off, power cuts, transport delays and cancellations".
