Elaine Peng, a mental health educator in the San Francisco Bay Area, made the remarks on World Mental Health Day, which is observed on October 10 every year, with the objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of the issue.

"Harmful use of alcohol and illicit drugs among adolescents is a major issue in many countries and can lead to risky behaviour such as unsafe sex or dangerous driving". Medical experts say we've made strides in terms of reducing the stigma around mental illness, but they add there's a long way to go, making World Mental Health Day that much more important.

"Acceptance of the premature death and poor physical health of people living with mental illness needs to be replaced by commitment to address this global scandal as a matter of priority", he said.

Cape Mental Health's Dylan Oktober said: "It's particularly important that we highlight the utmost importance of your mental health". The conference focused on public awareness of critical issues of mental illness present in youths.

According to World Health Organization, half all the mental illnesses begins by age 14 and often goes undetected and untreated. "Young people that we're seeing are going through adolescence, they are going through the demands and challenges of puberty and that can affect their thought processes and how they rationalise things out". These tragic deaths raised awareness of those who silently suffer from mental health issues, including depression, and underscored the enormous problem at hand in providing mental healthcare for everyone who needs it.

"Mental health services are still being underfunded by the Conservative government".

Issues such as homelessness, exposure to violence and perceived racism are some factors that can worsen the effects of mental health illness in African Americans.

Recalling a great deal of mental health conditions are both preventable and treatable, Guterres stressed healthy societies require greater integration of mental health into broader health and social care systems, under the umbrella of universal health coverage.

Among the Qatar Airways events and activities that have been organised for this year's programme include a photography competition, "Mental Health through my Lens", inviting Qatar Airways Group employees to submit a photo with a description of how the image connects to one of the five themes.

Starting in 2019, the government will also publish a "State of the Nation" report every year on World Mental Health Day, and recruitment has begun for new mental health support teams in schools.

It would also be unfair to suggest that this day of recognition doesn't help people, because it does.

"Mental health now receives less than 1% of global aid", she wrote.
