FBI agents investigating U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh have contacted the second woman to accuse him of sexual misconduct, her attorney said on Saturday.

Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., said Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's interaction with some of the members on the Senate Judiciary Committee during a hearing on sexual assault allegations lodged against him last week were a "little too sharp", but said he could relate to his emotional, raw response.

At the hearing, Kavanaugh angrily and categorically denied assaulting Ford or any other woman.

Deborah Ramirez alleges Kavanaugh took off his trousers and thrust his penis at her face at Yale party during their freshman year.

Both Judge and Kavanaugh have vehemently denied any allegation of misconduct.

The woman, Deborah Ramirez, has agreed to cooperate with the FBI investigation, according to a statement issued by her attorney, John Clune.

One of her lawyers, Debra Katz, on Friday said "no artificial limits as to time or scope should be imposed" on the new FBI investigation, USA media reported.

"The White House should not be allowed to micromanage a FBI investigation", Klobuchar said on CNN.

If confirmed to a lifetime Supreme Court appointment, Kavanaugh would consolidate conservative control of the nation's highest court and advance Trump's effort to shift the American judiciary to the right.

Don McGahn is the current White House counsel, and a friend of Kavanaugh.

In a statement released by the White House on Friday, Kavanaugh said he was interviewed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation throughout the selection process and participated in several background calls with the Senate.

"I've ordered the FBI to conduct a supplemental investigation to update Judge Kavanaugh's file", Trump said in a statement.

"I think that will be the scope of it".

The FBI and a spokesman for the Senate judiciary committee did not immediately return requests for comment about the Times report.

Fellow Senate Judiciary Committee member Sen.

"I've talked to Judge Kavanaugh", Kennedy said.

McConnell urged Trump to support Kavanaugh but to avoid attacking his accusers, warning that he was in charge of counting votes and those kinds of disparaging remarks could cause him to lose Republican senators whose votes could be key to confirming Kavanaugh, including Susan Collins of ME and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, they said.

Her allegations first appeared in the New Yorker.

Kavanaugh told the committee afterward that he considered the allegations part of a "calculated and orchestrated political hit" from Democrats who do not want him confirmed.

Blumenthal said he was riveted by Ford's testimony and wanted to hear from the other person alleged to have witnessed the assault.

Trump said the NBC report was incorrect.

"I just knew that we couldn't move forward, that I couldn't move forward without hitting the pause button", he said, adding that he believes that the Kavanaugh saga is "ripping the country apart".

Flake had released a statement that morning announcing that he would vote in favor of moving Kavanaugh's nomination out of committee and onto the Senate floor.

President Donald Trump ordered the FBI on Friday to reopen Kavanaugh's background investigation after several women accused Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct. But I know this: Brett denied it vigorously and everybody she named couldn't verify it, it's 36 years old. Ford says he was present during her alleged assault; he has said he has no memory of the alleged attack.

It will also question Mark Judge, a friend of Kavanaugh who Ford said witnessed the assault, and Leland Keyser and P.J. Smyth, who she said were at the gathering.A third accuser, Julie Swetnick, was not on the initial list of witnesses to be interviewed.
