Luka Modric and Didier Deschamps were awarded the leading honours for The Best FIFA Men's Player and Men's Coach respectively, after their outstanding years and notable contributions at the 2018 FIFA World Cup™.

For the 33-year-old midfielder, the prize caps a remarkable 12 months which saw him play an integral role in Real Madrid's third straight Champions League victory and then lead Croatia to their first ever World Cup final.

Modric beat off competition from Egypt and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah and his former teammate and Portuguese captain Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Real star won the Golden Ball at the World Cup and he'll be hoping to add the FIFA Best Player award to his collection tonight.

"I am as happy as if I had won it", said Ramos of Modric's success. "I would like to thank the whole team". It is my team mates' from Real Madrid and Croatia.

"I just want to thank all the people that voted for me for their support and continue as I have until now".

Others suggested that there were better goals than Salah's that should have earned the Puskas Award.

Modric defeated the duo of Mohammad Salah of Liverpool and Juventus star, Cristiano Ronaldo to emerge the victor.

And Capello has slammed Ronaldo and Messi, who were both included in the FIFPro World XI, for not appearing at Monday's ceremony in London.

Lyon have been European champions for the past three years, while they have won the French title every year since 2006. Olympique Lyonnais women's team manager Reynald Pedros won best women's coach.

Best Goalkeeper award: The best goalkeeper was by Belgian global and Chelsea goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois.

The Matildas are now ranked eighth in the world, but went unbeaten in the Tournament of Nations last month and will take on France next week as they prepare for next year's FIFA Women's World Cup.

Every national team captain is afforded the chance to have their say and the two five Ballon d'Or winners' choices have been revealed on the official Federation Internationale de Football Association website.
