After Elon Musk’s reefer madness, investors question Tesla CEO’s stability

Tesla's chief accounting officer, Dave Morton, said he was leaving the company after considering the level of attention Tesla has received and the "pace within the company". But a lot of the "public attention" Tesla received during Morton's brief tenure was focused on the possibility of Tesla going private.

Elon Musk sipped whiskey and smoked marijuana during a two-and-a-half-hour podcast with comedian Joe Rogan that touched upon everything from flame throwers and artificial intelligence to the end of the universe.

Last night Elon Musk, the billionaire inventor and electric vehicle innovator, was a guest on Joe Rogan's podcast.

Musk, 47, appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience Thursday night. Later, Tesla's eccentric CEO tweeted that he was negotiating the go-private deal with buyout firm Silver Lake, investment bank Goldman Sachs and several other firms, including the Saudi Arabian government.

Toledano, who has been on leave of absence from the company, said she would not be returning to the company.

Musk then said: "I'm not a regular smoker of weed".

Musk raised eyebrows on social media after accepting what Rogan said was a joint of marijuana and tobacco and taking a puff. In the Rogan interview Thursday night, Musk talked about thinking he was insane when he was 5 or 6 years old because so many ideas were forming in his head.

"As a result, this caused me to reconsider my future".

The spot on one of the most popular podcasts in the USA marks Musk's first appearance in a public forum since he stunned the financial world last month with his short-lived effort to take Tesla private.

In interviews afterwards, Musk said he was exhausted, working long hours with little sleep, was using sleeping pills and was frustrated with the demands of operating a public company. "I want to be clear that I believe strongly in Tesla, its mission, and its future prospects, and I have no disagreements with Tesla's leadership or its financial reporting".

Analysts on Friday reiterated their call for Tesla to bring in another senior leader.

"We think this is further evidence that the time is now for management and the board to address these issues".

Tesla Inc. (TSLA) shares dropped down to their lowest point in almost six months today amid a lawsuit made by a short-seller who is suing the auto company over claims that they lied to investors about taking TSLA private. Tesla is now worth roughly $21 billion less than it was in the immediate aftermath of Musk's infamous "funding secured" tweet. "Weed is not helpful for productivity". Shares soared on the news, eventually rising more than 10 percent (the Nasdaq briefly halted trading to ensure the tweet was legitimate).

Like the electorate, there is a large pool of independents in the stock market, and at least some of them have to be won over.
