Denver Broncos: Earl Thomas doubtful to play on Sunday

Within the past week, the Dallas Cowboys upped their offer to the Seattle Seahawks for Pro Bowl safety Earl Thomas to a second-round pick, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Seahawks are not in negotiations with Thomas, and there has been nothing to indicate that they are interested in giving him an extension while his current deal has a season remaining.

Ian Rapoport said "until something changes, Thomas is not expected to report and play for Seattle".

Thomas wrote on Instagram, accompanied by a picture of himself in the Seahawks' weight room, that: "I worked my whole life for this...."

Seattle opens the season on Sunday at Denver.

Thomas' absence from mandatory minicamp and training camp has subject him to roughly $1.6 million in fines. He has sought certainty over his long-term future and used social media to make his case during the off-season.

That Thomas wrote that the "disrespect has been well noted and will not be forgotten" means Thomas obviously is reporting rather unhappily.

Thomas has since reported to the Seahawks, but he still doesn't appear to be thrilled with his situation.

In February 2017, Chiefs' safety Eric Berry, 29, became the owner of the biggest safety deal with a five-year, $78 million contract that comes out to about $13 million per year.

The Seahawks have not shown a willingness to extend Thomas after this season and he may not be willing to re-sign with Seattle at this point, anyway.

Seattle has not wanted to give Thomas an extension, apparently as part of its "retooling" that also saw the team move on from the likes of Richard Sherman and Michael Bennett, wanting Thomas to play out the final year.

But in an Instagram post Wednesday, Thomas said he wouldn't let the Seahawks down by continuing to hold out into the regular season.
