What we know about Don McGahn's cooperation with the Mueller probe

"He did not incriminate him", Burck wrote in one email, which was described by multiple people.

According to HuffPo, "Darren Beattie was terminated after the White House learned he had appeared on a panel with British white nationalist Peter Brimelow at the 2016 Mencken Club conference in the Baltimore area, CNN reported Sunday".

Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, a former NY mayor, contended Sunday on NBC's Meet the Press that "truth isn't truth" in the Mueller investigation, saying that various events in the Trump presidency, and whether he obstructed justice by seeking to block the investigation, are open to interpretation.

U.S. President Donald Trump answers a question during an interview with Reuters in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington, U.S. August 20, 2018.

US President Donald Trump: "If you FIGHT BACK or say anything bad about the Rigged Witch Hunt, they scream Obstruction!"

The president "thought that McGahn was going to go in and sort of act as his personal lawyer and say to Mueller, 'Hey, look, nothing wrong went on here, '" Schmidt said. This morning Trump also tweeted, "Disgraced and discredited Bob Mueller and his whole group of Angry Democrat Thugs spent over 30 hours with the White House Councel, only with my approval, for purposes of transparency..."

"John Dowd yesterday said - I'll use his words rather than mine - that McGahn was a strong witness for the President, so I don't need to know much more about that", Giuliani said.

Legal experts and former White House counsels said the president's lawyers had been careless in not asking McGahn what he had planned to tell Mueller's prosecutors.

The President's advisers are now concerned McGahn's statements to the special counsel could be key to filling in some blanks of Mueller's report, two people familiar with the discussion told the Times. A deeper debrief might have prevented the White House from being surprised by some details that later emerged in news reports, the person said. Trump said as he encouraged the Border Patrol agent to come on stage.

McGahn is far from the only member of Trump's inner circle who has been interviewed extensively by Mueller's team. "So this is pretty important testimony, and it's taken Trump 48 hours nearly to understand what's going on here". Former press secretary Sean Spicer also sat for multiple days of interviews.

Davis said he was seeking factual information, not legal advice, from Dean in their conversations and did not share with him information that would be covered by attorney-client privilege.

Dean tweeted that he believed "Trump had no clue about the testimony".

He added today in response to Trump's tweets that he doubts the president has "ANY IDEA what McGahn has told Mueller". And he certainly could have refused to do it voluntarily and forced the Mueller team to subpoena him to the grand jury.

"The strategy is working", Dowd said in a statement Monday, adding that Mueller can not compel Trump to testify because "all of his questions have been answered by 37 cooperating witnesses [and] 1.4 million documents".
