Though sometimes mocked in pop culture (most famously in The Big Lebowski), the Eagles have enjoyed a resurgence of interest lately thanks to the two-part documentary series History of the Eagles.
The last time the album's sales numbers were tabulated was in 2006.
And it also seems worth mentioning that Hotel California, Eagles' 1976 album, is the #3 best-seller of all time, with sales of 26 million.
The compilation was overtaken by "Thriller" in 2009 after Jackson's death caused a surge in sales.
According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Thriller has been surpassed - the best-selling album of all time is now Eagles - Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975. Thriller shot up the ranks and earned its spot as the best selling album of all time, and while it's been a great 9 years, it's been overthrown - by the record that originally held the title before Jackson's passing.
The announcement means that Thriller, released in 1982 and selling or streaming more than 33 million times - or 33x platinum - is now in second place.
Eagles' songwriter Don Henley has made a statement on the achievement.
The Eagles were formed in Los Angeles by Henlely and Glenn Frey in 1971 and are the highest selling band in U.S. history.
Frey died in 2016, but the band still tours with Henley, Frey's son Deacon and country star Vince Gill. In 1998, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. It has scheduled a series of concerts in the United States in September. Though they broke up in 1980, the band got back together in 1994.
