  • Aretha Franklin gravely ill

A source close to Franklin told CNN's Don Lemon earlier this week that the singer was being visited by people close to her who are reading messages from friends and loved ones and holding her hand.

Franklin, a one-time gospel singer whose reign as the "Queen of Soul" has spanned more than 50 years, is under hospice care at her home on Tuesday, according to publicist Gwendolyn Quinn.

Beyonce, who's now touring with her husband Jay-Z for the On The Run II tour stopped their show the other night in Aretha's hometown of Detroit and dedicated their performance to her.

Franklin was born in Memphis, Tennessee, but spent many of her pre-teen years in Buffalo's Cold Springs neighborhood. In 1987, she became the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

TMZ and Variety have reported that pancreatic cancer may be the cause of her illness, while People is reporting that her death is "imminent". I spoke with her family members this morning.

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton tweeted Monday that he and Hillary Clinton "are thinking about Aretha Franklin tonight & listening to her music that has been such an important part of our lives the last 50 years". "She's definitely a queen and she's fantastic so I really feel for her". "They have not only asked for prayers during this time, but they have also asked for their privacy".

The 18-time Grammy award victor maintained ties with the church throughout the years, including making financial contributions and hosting events.

Actress-singer Mandy Moore, who stars in "This Is Us" with Brown, said Franklin has "the most incredible legacy".

He said he never inquired as to what was wrong with Franklin.

She returned to the stage in August 2017 for a performance at the Mann Center in Philadelphia and also sang at the Elton John AIDS Foundation's Enduring Vision benefit gala in November.

"She gives to the needy, the homeless", Franklin's assistant Fannie Tyler told assembled news media while thanking the church for the vigil.
