Police in London investigating suspected terror attack near Parliament

The incident began at around 7:37 a.m. BST.

The suspect, who is reported to be in his late 20s, drove into the barriers earlier this morning, although there were no fatalities or life-threatening injuries. No one else was in the auto, which is being searched at the scene of the accident.

The London Ambulance Service said two people were treated for injuries at the scene but they were not considered serious.

"I was told to move and started to run", he said.

Authorities said Tuesday that they would deal with Khater's actions as terrorism, given their seemingly deliberate nature, as well as the location and method Khater employed. He was taken to a south London police station for questioning, where he remains in custody.

In a tweet, the Metropolitan Police stated that two pedestrians are injured.

London police say an incident in which a vehicle was driven into a barrier near the Houses of Parliament appears to be a deliberate act.

In a statement, London's Metropolitan Police said its counter-terrorism unit is leading the current investigation. The Westminster tube station was closed, and people were urged to stay away from the area.

Eyewitness Ewelina U. Ochab told CNN she saw the incident take place from the other side of the pavement.

"I saw the auto crash into the barrier outside Westminster Palace, with smoke coming out of the vehicle".

The vehicle is said to have been driven at speed, and to have lifted off the ground when it hit the barriers.

A 29-year-old driver, a British citizen who had originally come from another country, was arrested on Tuesday morning after ramming his auto into barriers outside parliament in Westminster, injuring three people.

And 22 people were killed and hundreds injured during a bombing attack at the end of an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester in May 2017. At least three people have been injured in the crash.
