Rogue employee swipes plane from Seattle airport, crashes after military air pursuit

  • An incident at the Seattle Tacoma International Airport led to a temporary grounding of all flights on Friday night

A MAN has stolen a passenger plane from an airport in the United States and deliberately flown it into the ground after being chased by military fighter jets above Washington. This individual who took the aircraft, who has not yet been positively identified until remains are examined, is believed to have been the only person on the plane when the plane was taken from a maintenance position at Sea-Tac. Eventually the plane crashed in a remote wooded area of Ketron Island in Puget Sound, leaving behind a fiery pile of debris.

"He was acting alone and he is 29-year-old Pierce county residence".

Instead, the sheriff's office said the cause of the crash could have been either the pilot's inexperience, or his decision to pull mid-air stunts during his short flight.

A U.S. Air Force KC-135R tanker was also dispatched from Fairchild AFB to support the F-15s.

Around 8: 15 p.m., multiple viewers of our sister station in Seattle, KING 5, called to report a hijacked airplane, saying an apparent pilot or airport worker took off with an aircraft. A large plume of smoke is visible to residents surrounding Steilacoom, Washington.

"The President has been briefed on the incident involving a stolen plane from Sea-Tac Airport in Seattle and is monitoring the situation as information becomes available", press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said.

Traffic arrives at Sea-Tac International Airport terminal Friday evening, August 10, 2018, in SeaTac, Wash.

The sheriff's department said federal authorities would lead the investigation into the crash.

Pierce County Sheriff Paul Pastor told member station KNKX's Ed Ronco that the fire is "under control". (I'm) just a broken guy, got a few screws loose I guess.

In one, the controller can be heard telling the pilot: "What we don't want to see is you get hurt or anyone else get hurt, so like I said, if you want to land, that's probably the best way to go".

He added that "in the coming days there's very likely going to be a very, very intense public discussion about high-fidelity simulations of the Bombardier Q400 available for use on home flight simulators".

"This is probably jail time for life, huh?" he asks.

Witnesses reported seeing the plane being chased by military aircraft near the airport.

"I've got a lot of people that care about me", the man later said. Military jets were scrambled from Portland, but it does not appear that these jets were involved in the crash of the Horizon aircraft.

Horizon Air chief operating officer Constance von Muehlen issued a video statement describing the incident. "It's going to disappoint them to hear that I did this", the employee said to controllers. "I was kind of hoping that was going to be it, you know". "Never really knew it until now".

As two fighter pilots flew behind and closed in on the Q400, Richard crash-landed the plane in a cloud of smoke.
