The best way to view the meteor shower is by sitting in a reclining lawn chair or lying on your back and looking up at the sky with a wide view.
The Perseid meteor shower will reportedly reach its peak visibility over this weekend (11-12 August). That's more than a meteor per minute. Stargazers will be able to see the falling debris as "shooting stars".
"Sky gazers just need to look to the northeast to observe the Perseid showers", Dr Marzouk suggested. The meteor shower is formed from the debris from the Swift-Tuttle comet as the tiny debris enters the Earth's atmosphere.
A stunning, natural spectacle is set to light up night skies across the world this weekend, and those living in Dubois County should have a good seat to the show. The best place to enjoy this natural light show will be away from bright lights and outside of major cities, like Barrie.
Unfortunately, it's expected to be mostly cloudy for most of us at that time. Sunday night looks to be the best night with mainly clear skies overhead.
The shower that we see from Earth is the little bits of ice and dust - that are usually no bigger than a pea - hitting the Earth's atmosphere at a staggering 134,000 miles per hour. From our perspective, the meteors all seem to come from a single point called the "radiant", but that's because they are moving parallel to each other. Scientists from NASA also said that camping out in the country can triple the amount of visible meteors. It averages about 60 meteors per hour.
The Wye Marsh Wildife Centre on Hwy 12 in Midland is hosting a Perseid Meteor Viewing Event.
Some meteors could appear streaking across the sky for several seconds, leaving a trail of glowing smoke in their wake.
Where is the best place to view them?
