Trump blasts LeBron James ahead of Ohio rally

CNN anchor Don Lemon replied to Mr Trump's tweet, asking: "Who's the real dummy?"

"No. I'd sit across from Barack, though", he said, laughing.

But the best laugh was reserved for the man who conducted the LeBron interview, suffering the worst of Trump's Twitter jab.

James and Lemon have yet to respond to Trump's tweet.

James received publicity during the week for opening his new school in Akron, Ohio.

James first said Mr. Trump is using sports to divide Americans at a press conference in September 2017, when Mr. Trump claimed he had disinvited Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors, although the team had decided not to visit.

And so, a miffed Trump fired back.

Early Saturday afternoon ― when public controversy over Trump's tweet had been raging for hours ― James sent out a tweet of his own, but not one directly aimed at Trump.

"I've been silent about ALL of the DUMB stuff this man has tweeted but THIS is attacking the National Basketball Association brotherhood and I'm not rollin'!"

"(Trump) kinda used sports to kinda divide us", James told Lemon in their sitdown. LeBron was discussing the school in the CNN interview on Friday that set off Donald Trump. Torrey Smith, a former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver who was among the first of that team's players to say they would not visit the White House after winning the Super Bowl this year, suggested race played a role in Trump's criticism. The basketball star recently opened an I Promise School for low income and at-risk kids in OH, inspired by his own upbringing.

Some also speculated Trump's attack came as LeBron had moved to California, which is not a swing state like OH, where he previously lived, unscathed by the President's wrath.

In June, before James left the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Los Angeles Lakers, Curry and James united during the NBA Finals to say that they would boycott the White House.

Attacking Mr Trump, James later tweeted: "U bum @StephenCurry30 already said he ain't going!" Lemon tweeted. "A man who puts kids in classrooms or one who puts kids in cages?" "I know the streets that they walk".
