The day after police in Kearney, Missouri shared information about a possible sighting of missing Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts, investigators said it was not her after all. "Everyday I feel Mollie's presence with me". This is going to be solved by someone coming forward with information.
Investigators said she disappeared on July 18.
She announced the new reward amount, which spiked from $2,000 offered earlier this week after donations poured in from across the nation.
"This is a fight for our daughter", Rob said.
On July 18, the day she disappeared, Tibbetts' brother dropped her off at her boyfriend's house so she could dog-sit, HLN reported.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers of Central Iowa at 1-800-452-1111.
Investigators, with the help of Federal Bureau of Investigation forensic experts, were tracking Tibbetts' digital footprint. "A report was sent to the investigating task force regarding this possible sighting".
Police in Brooklyn, Iowa, joined by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in their efforts to find Tibbetts, have been scouring the area as well as studying data from Mollie's fitbit.
State investigators have said they pursue all leads and have conducted multiple searches.
"Unfortunately, we have not yet found Mollie, but it has not been due to a lack of effort or a lack of resources", said Kevin Winker, director of investigative operations for the Iowa Department of Public Safety.
"Tibbetts is 5'2" and approximately 120 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last spotted jogging around 7:30 that evening, wearing gym shorts, a black sports bra and running shoes, the sheriff's office said.
The girl's family is expected to speak to the media Thursday and investigators are expected to provide an update Friday.
The mother of a missing Iowa college student pleaded Thursday with anyone who may have abducted her daughter to let her go and instead claim a pot of reward money that has ballooned to $172,000. "We are hopeful that she is still alive and so we will continue to think that way until told otherwise", Rahn told ABC News last week.
