Trump says he is willing to talk to Iran's leader without preconditions

  • Trump I would meet Iran without preconditions

In his latest overture, Trump says he would 'certainly meet' with Hassan Rouhani without preconditions, if the Iranian president is willing.

Speaking during a joint news conference with Italy's premier, Trump said he would meet with the Iranians "anytime they want to".

Trump said he had "no preconditions" for a meeting with the Iranians, adding: "If they want to meet, I'll meet".

"Given the hostile measures of the USA against Iran after its withdrawal from the JCPOA (nuclear deal) and the reinstatement of economic sanctions, there is no possibility for talks and Washington reveals its untrustworthy nature day by day", Ghasemi told reporters, according to the conservative-aligned Mehr news agency.

"The United States is prepared to take actions to end sanctions, reestablish full diplomatic and commercial relations, permit Iran to have advanced technology and support the reintegration of the Iranian economy into the worldwide economic system", Marquis said. I don't know that they're ready yet.

Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, the head of influential parliamentary committee on national security and foreign policy, suggested a USA return to the nuclear deal, which would bring an end to the economic uncertainty, would be needed before Tehran could think of negotiating. 'Good for the country, good for them, good for us and good for the world.

Under the 2015 deal, the fruit of Rouhani's efforts to ease Iran's global isolation to help revive its economy, Iran curbed its shadowy nuclear program and won relief from United Nations and Western sanctions in return.

"I'll meet with anybody", he said.

The head of Iran's Strategic Council on Foreign Relations said on Tuesday Tehran saw no worth in Trump's offer, made only a week after he warned Iran it risked dire consequences few had ever suffered in history if it made threats against Washington. "It was a ridiculous deal", Trump said.

The White House said that even though the president "is open to dialogue and negotiation", it did not mean the United States would lift sanctions or re-establish diplomatic and commercial relations.

Secretary of state Mike Pompeo said recently that the administration was "willing to talk with the regime in Iran, but relief from American pressure will come only when we see tangible, demonstrated and sustained shifts in Tehran's policies".

According to foreign exchange website Bonbast.com, the Iranian rial plunged to 111,500 against one USA dollar on the unofficial market, down from about 97,500 rials on Saturday.

Economic hardship in Iran forced Khamenei to reluctantly back Rouhani's efforts in securing the 2015 nuclear deal.
