  • Cohen Says Trump Knew About Trump Tower Meeting With Russians In Advance, CNN Reports

Cohen's claims contradict statements from the president, Trump Jr. and their legal teams that Trump did not know about the Trump Tower meeting where Russians were expected to offer dirt on his then-Democratic challenger Hillary ClintonHillary Diane Rodham ClintonEx-NFL player accuses Trump of attacking "black culture" Pompeo spars with senators at testy hearing Budowsky: In 2018, women say no to Trump MORE until The New York Times reported on its existence a year ago. The episode has come under scrutiny by special counsel Robert Mueller as part of his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

"Donald Trump Jr. has been professional and responsible throughout the Mueller and Congressional investigations", said Alan Futerfas, a lawyer for Donald Trump Jr.

Cohen's belief was perhaps fueled by his standing as a jack-of-all-trades, a self-described "fixer" for Trump who managed everything from real estate branding deals and hush money payments to assembling a diversity coalition during the 2016 campaign.

After repeated denials from Donald Trump Sr. and Jr., CNN reported a bombshell that completely undermines the Trump administration's narrative about the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting with Russian operatives who offered dirt on Hillary Clinton.

"Michael Cohen can't be believed unless it's corroborated five times", Giuliani said. "Why would you expect it would be true from someone like Cohen?"

The difference, Giuliani said Sunday, is that he has since learned that Cohen secretly taped clients, including Trump.

"If lying to the media was a crime, he would go to jail for a thousand years", Giuliani quipped.

The President lashed out at Cohen after the release of the recording, saying on Twitter, "what kind of a lawyer would tape a client?" "Sounds to me like someone is trying to make up stories in order to get himself out of an unrelated jam".

U.S. President Donald Trump's ex-lawyer Michael Cohen has largely stayed out of the spotlight in the months since federal agents raided his office and hotel room and seized scores of records about his work for Mr. Trump.

Raddatz asked Abrams and Chris Christie, a former USA prosecutor and New Jersey governor who is an ABC News contributor, for their thoughts on the Trump team's legal strategy in regard to Cohen.

Giuliani previously told Business Insider he "would be surprised" if Trump knew about the meeting at the time that it happened.

Cohen has told associates he is cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller in the Russian Federation investigation.

At the meeting, Trump Jr. was joined by his brother-in-law Jared Kushner and Paul Manafort, who was Trump's campaign chairman at the time.

She has denied acting on behalf of Russian leadership during the meeting at Trump Tower, saying she operates "independently of any governmental bodies".

President Donald Trump's lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, said Monday that he's not sure collusion with Russian Federation would be considered a crime, marking a sharp advancement of the President's longtime defense that there was no collusion between his campaign and Moscow. Trump has denied having an affair with Karen McDougal, the former Playboy model.

The Trump legal team is open to Mueller interviewing Trump with questions related to "an area of collusion, not obstruction", Giuliani said. They also note that two days before the meeting, Trump mysteriously announced plans to give a "major speech" about Clinton's scandals. Trump Jr. told Congress he didn't remember with whom he spoke. In a series of tweets Friday morning, the president said, "The highly conflicted Robert Mueller and his gang of 13 Angry Democrats obviously can not find Collusion" and "the only Collusion with Russian Federation was with the Democrats".
