  • War with Iran is the mother of all wars, Rouhani tells Trump

Pompeo said America stands in solidarity with Iranians and reiterated that the US expects countries to "significantly" reduce their dependence on Iranian oil or face tough new sanctions after November 4.

President Donald Trump is warning Iranian President Hassan Rouhani that he will face dire consequences for threatening the United States.

Rouhani had hinted earlier this month that Iran may block regional oil exports if its own sales are halted following the U.S. withdrawal from the nuclear deal.

In a televised speech, Hassan Rouhani told the American president: "Do not play with the lion's tail, you will regret it forever". In a speech, Rouhani warned his US counterpart against threatening the nation's oil exports and called for improved relations with its neighbors, including arch-rival Saudi Arabia.

The missile, Hatami said, had reached the mass-production stage despite US-led sanctions targeting Iran's missile industry.

"Anyone who understands the rudiments of politics doesn't say "we will stop Iran's oil exports".we have been the guarantor of the regional waterway's security throughout history", Rouhani said, Reuters reported.

"Peace with Iran would be the mother of all peace and war with Iran would be the mother of all wars", Rouhani said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is praising President Donald Trump for his "strong stance" on Iran.

Within hours, Iran's state-owned news agency IRNA dismissed the tweet, describing it as a "passive reaction" to Rouhani's remarks.

Pompeo's remarks Sunday reprised his criticism of the Iranian government, but on a deeply personal level that is likely to be repeated in the USA government broadcasts into Iran.

Trump has made Iran a favourite target since his rapprochement with nuclear-armed North Korea.

The U.S. has imposed financial sanctions against Larijani, saying he is "responsible for ordering, controlling, or otherwise directing the commission of serious human rights abuses against persons in Iran or Iranian citizens or residents". America wants nothing less than (to) destroy Iran.

Pompeo said the Trump administration would be willing to hold talks with the Iranian government if it stops repressing dissidents and religious minorities and stops supporting militant groups in conflicts elsewhere in the region.

He said the goal of the United States is to see Iranians inside their own country live the same kind of life Iranians in the United States enjoy.

Several members of the Trump administration and Trump's circle have been outspoken hawks on Iran.

The top USA diplomat claimed that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had an off-the-books hedge fund, Setad, worth $95bn, and that Iran's judiciary chief Sadeq Larijani was worth $300m after wiring public funds to his own accounts.

The 2015 agreement was in response to fears that Iran was developing a nuclear bomb.
