  • Anderson in Wimbledon final after second longest ever match

Rafael Nadal said he was proud and had nothing to reproach himself for after losing a top-quality Wimbledon semi-final to great rival Novak Djokovic on Saturday.

Three-time victor John McEnroe said in commentary that there should be fifth-set tie-breaks at grand slams and Anderson agreed, adding: "I really hope we can address this".

"He is one of the more complex players that I ever saw in our sport".

Kevin Anderson overcame marathon man John Isner to reach the Wimbledon final after the longest semi-final in grand slam history.

Let's start with the score: 7-6 (6), 6-7 (5), 6-7 (9) 6-4, 26-24. Another set point came at 9-8, but this time on Isner's serve, who saved it with a 138 miles-per-hour serve.

Anderson was praised after expressing his sympathy for Isner in a humble post-match interview and later tweeted: "Thank you John for being an incredible sportsman and friend".

The match was tight throughout, but Isner saved two set points in the third-set tiebreaker to take the lead.

The No. 8 seed Anderson eliminated eight-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer in a 13-11 fifth set in the quarterfinals Wednesday. Novak finds another return winer to prolong the game and there's the second break point for him after a poor backhand from Rafa. With both players capable of enormous serves, the two just kept blasting the ball past each other, trading service and sides of the court as the rules dictated, but rarely ever competing in a compelling rally. "For us to be out there for this length of time - I mean not just on us coming back, trying to compete at this sort of stage, going through this - It's happened to John before, when he has played another five hours".

"They've paid to see two matches, and they came pretty close to only seeing one match", Anderson said.

"Whoever wins this (second) match you would think, because of how much time Kevin spent on court, will be the prohibitive favourite".

"You know, a few days' rest, maybe more than that, and I'll recoup an Isner said that being part of yet another record-breaking match did not help ease his pain".

Raonic, the 2016 Wimbledon runner-up, was a point away from taking a commanding two-set lead.

And another all-time great awaits him on Sunday in either Nadal or Djokovic. Anderson moved to his first Wimbledon final as Isner produced his 59th unforced error.

For Nadal, victory would put him in a sixth Wimbledon final and 25th at the majors.

"I actually went straight into the ice tank, then I did the stretching".

There's no doubt Djokovic will be a big favorite, even if he did need to play almost 2 hours Saturday while Anderson was able to rest and relax and recover. He reached last year's US Open final, is 6ft 8in and to use an Americanism (in honour of Trump's visit) he can take the racket out of your hand.

Isner hadn't been broken in London throughout his run to his first Grand Slam championship semifinal.

"If you ask majority, I'm sure they would have preferred to see a fifth-set tiebreaker, too".

Both players held serve all the way through the third set and into the tiebreaker, which saw Nadal fail to convert three separate set-point opportunities, including one on his own serve. I gave it my best, and that's it.
