Trump said Tuesday that his meeting with Putin "may be the easiest" out of all his other meetings with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation leaders this week.

President Trump wrapped up the two-day North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels stating that he had successfully pushed member states to increase their defense spending beyond previously agreement levels, but French President Emmanuel Macron said there was no agreement beyond the 2014 summit increase.

Schumer said in a statement that "glad-handing with Vladimir Putin on the heels of these indictments would be an insult to our democracy".

"Trump said things plainly, as it normal between friends and allies".

NATO, a pillar of the global order, emerged from a two-day confrontation with President Donald Trump on Thursday intact but distracted and shaken, a further challenge to the alliance as it faces an expansionist Russian Federation and growing authoritarianism among some of its own members.

Other Democratic members of Congress, including Rep. Adam Schiff and Sen.

The second day of the defence pact meeting was disrupted and repeatedly rescheduled, as Trump's insistence on renegotiating his allies' defence budgets took precedence over issues such as Ukraine and Georgia's vulnerability to Russian Federation.

"I will absolutely bring that up".

"I don't think you'll have any 'Gee, I did it, I did it, you got me, '" Trump said Friday morning before the indictments were announced.

Trump today denied criticising May's plans, saying that "perhaps the United Kingdom has left the European Union, but whatever you do is ok with me". "I think 4 percent is the right number".

When asked if he was going to change his cooperative tone once he's out of the country (as he's been known to do), he replied by referencing one of his greatest hits - "I'm a very stable genius".

But less than three hours later, the California Democrat joined the chorus of party members calling for the meeting to be canceled.

Trump said at a news conference Friday near London with British Prime Minister Theresa May that he wasn't going into the meeting with Putin with "high expectations".

"We are a country that really believes that winning the war is just the first step and we have to work really hard to win the peace".

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is billing a pre-existing plan to grow military spending by 70 per cent over the next 10 years as Canada's answer to Donald Trump's persistent demand that North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies spend two per cent of their GDP on defence. That includes four former Trump campaign and White House aides and 13 Russians accused of participating in a hidden but powerful social media campaign to sway American public opinion in the 2016 election. "This is consistent with what we have been saying all along".

Others, in wake of the indictments, have urged Trump to simply cancel the meeting.
