  • Russia vs Croatia: Quarter Final- 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia

Belgium's so-called golden generation has finally turned potential into concrete results by reaching the last four of the World Cup for the first time since 1986.

Victoria Lopyreva, glamorous ambassador for the soccer World Cup in Russia and a former Miss Russia, urged England fans on Monday to ignore politics and travel to Moscow to support their team in Wednesday's semi-final against Croatia.

Hosts Russia, the lowest ranked team in the tournament, scored five of their 11 goals from set-pieces on the way to the quarter-finals, their strongest showing since the end of the Soviet Union, and got past highly fancied Spain in the last 16 thanks to a penalty shootout.

Croatia players were less vocal on social media after narrowly progressing to their first semi-final appearance since 1994, but it can not be denied that the players are not motivated for Wednesday evening.

On Tuesday (10 July), 1998 World Cup winners France take on a much fancied Belgium side. They also helped Fox hit new ratings highs for its coverage of this year's World Cup.

If England's semi-final with Croatia goes to penalties, going second might be the best bet for skipper Harry Kane.

The Russians as hosts did not need to qualify for the World Cup and their ranking of 70 in the world was the lowest among all teams in Russia, even lower than global football minnows Saudi Arabia.

Davor Suker, the president of the Croatian Football Federation, said he was planning a big seafood dinner for all the players, management and staff to ensure they are as relaxed as possible.

The 31-year-old Lloris describes the Belgium lineup as "quite simply, the most complete side in the tournament, in all aspects of the game".

With the crowd silenced following an extra-time header from Croatia defender Domagoj Vida in the 101st minute, Russian Federation defender Mario Fernandes scored with his own header in the 115th to send the match to the penalty shootout.

"I really don't want another penalty shoot-out, it's so stressful".

The World Cup Final is scheduled to kick off at 4pm on Sunday, July 15.

However if Croatia come out on top in Moscow, Mandzukic could be facing a lump-sum bill on his eventual return home.

But as in the previous match against Denmark - which Croatia also won on penalties after an insipid 1-1 draw - all too often his team mates failed to do anything with them.

"We know where we are, we know we're not the finished article and I don't think we have loads of world class players".
