  • An ambulance thought to be carrying one of the rescued boys

At least two more boys have been rescued from inside Thailand's Tham Luang Nang Non cave as the second phase of a rescue operation to evacuate a teen soccer team and its 25-year-old coach continues.

At a news conference Monday, former Chiang Rai governor Narongsak Osotthanakorn said the second rescue involved numerous same divers who brought the four boys out on Sunday.

An ambulance has been seen leaving the site of the Thai cave where divers are carrying out what they hope is a final mission to bring out four boys and their soccer coach still trapped deep inside.

A total of eight boys have now been brought out of the cave complex.

Reuters reported that eight players have been rescued in unsafe attempts by a world-class worldwide team of divers.

The ups and downs of the rescue bid have entranced Thailand and also fixated a global audience, drawing comments of support from celebrities as varied as US President Donald Trump, football star Lionel Messi and tech guru Elon Musk.

The third phase of an operation to rescue four remaining boys and their football coach trapped inside a flooded Thai cave is underway.

Authorities say expected rains may force a complex rescue quicker than first thought.

Nineteen team members have entered the cave for the third rescue mission, he added.

He also said they would be "kept away" from physical contact with their parents until the youngsters are no longer at risk of infection.

Monday's operation began at 11 a.m. and took nine hours, two fewer than Sunday, with rescuers helped by the experience they have accumulated, Narongsak told a news conference punctuated with rounds of applause.

Four more boys were brought out Monday from the flooded cave in Chiang Rai after four others were rescued on Sunday.

Four were rescued on Monday, and the first four extracted on Sunday.

The first 4 boys who were rescued the other day, aged between 12 and 16, are now allowed to eat normal food once again.

The boys had asked for chocolate and bread, both of which the hospital had provided, he said.

Rescuers are racing to remove the remaining five members of the Wild Boar soccer team from the cave before the return of heavy monsoon rains.

Although there have been no major reported complications during the initial rescues, the death of a former Thai Navy SEAL diver who ran out of oxygen in a flooded area of the cave on Friday underscored the dangers of the journey.

Twelve children and one adult were trapped in underground caves in northern Thailand on June 23rd, and a rescue mission is still taking place to bring the victims home.

The rescue missions take almost half a day to complete. "But we will have a psychiatrist to evaluate them".

Musk said it was light enough to be carried by two divers, robust, and small enough to get through narrow gaps.

So the challenge for the children lies in keeping in keeping calm while remembering the minutiae of a new skill, Foisey said.
