It's understood the superstar was taken to the emergency room at John Paul II hospital.

George Clooney was taken to hospital in Italy today after he was involved in a road accident while driving a moped and was thrown across a car's bonnet, breaking its windshield.

Private media firm Mediaset, citing gossip magazine Chi, said the accident occurred near Costa Corallina, in the province of Olbia.

A picture from La Nuova shows a smashed windscreen, which suggests George hit it during the crash, but despite this, his condition is not thought to be serious.

They claim that he injured his pelvis in the smash, but after being x-rayed was sent home.

The Batman and Robin star is staying in Sardinia for the summer with his wife, Amal, and their one year old twins, Ella and Alexander, while he films for TV series, Catch 22.

He was joined by wife Amal Clooney and it has been reported that the pair left the hospital together in a private auto.

Calls and emails to Clooney's spokesman in regards to the accident weren't immediately returned, according to Associated Press.

The A-list couple are believed to have brought their parents to the island to help care for the children while George works.

Sardinia is a large Italian island in the Mediterranean Sea and is over 500 miles from Clooney's villa in Lake Como.

Despite "really liking him" even before their romantic dinner, the beauty admitted she never held out much hope.
